Many people assume Tuskegee is the sole reason why some Black Americans do not trust doctors today. But historians point out that this fear goes much deeper. It started long before the study. Abuse in medical research was common during slavery. Tuskegee did not create this fear out of nowhere. It just proved that the fear was completely justified.
