Critics argue that Proof of Stake makes the rich richer and hurts decentralization. In a stake-based system, the people who already own the most coins get chosen most often to validate transactions and earn rewards. This can create a closed loop where wealth and power concentrate in fewer hands. Proof of Work, while expensive, at least allows anyone with cheap electricity and a computer to join the race.
