A chemical byproduct and metabolite of sucralose can damage human DNA.

Recent laboratory findings reveal that a compound called sucralose-6-acetate can break apart human DNA. This toxic substance is not only a manufacturing byproduct found in commercial sweeteners, but it is also produced when our own gut bacteria process sucralose. Exposure to this metabolite damages the protective lining of the gut, making it leaky, while simultaneously increasing the activity of genes associated with inflammation and cancer.
