Comedians score significantly higher on scales measuring psychotic personality traits than the general public.

Research using the Oxford-Liverpool Inventory of Feelings and Experiences shows that comedians exhibit high scores on dimensions related to psychotic traits. Crucially, they show a rare, dual nature: scoring high on both introverted anhedonia (difficulty feeling pleasure from normal sources) and extraverted impulsiveness. This unusual psychological makeup is believed to aid in the creation of comedic material.
