The film opened at the UK box office on 23 August 2000, followed by festival screenings in Finland (Helsinki International Film Festival, 25 September), Hungary (Titanic International Film Festival, 6 October), Norway (Bergen International Film Festival, 21 October), and Israel (10 November). The US premiere followed in Los Angeles on 6 December 2000. It was both a critical and commercial success, grossing over $83 million worldwide against a $10 million budget.
