Lori McClintock died in California in December 2021 after ingesting white mulberry leaf, which had been marketed for conditions including diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol. The coroner attributed the death to dehydration caused by gastroenteritis from adverse effects of the ingestion and ruled it accidental. This case shows why names and roles must be checked carefully: a death connected with an herbal product is not evidence that an herbal practitioner disappeared or was killed.
