What is the impact of black holes on the evolution of galaxies?

Supermassive black holes at galactic centers are not passive observers; they actively influence star formation, gas distribution, and the overall structure of their host galaxies through phenomena like active galactic nuclei (AGN) feedback, which can heat or expel gas.

Action

Fund observational astronomy projects focused on galactic centers and their surrounding environments to map the interplay between black holes and galaxy evolution.

evidence

Gravitational waves, ripples in spacetime, provide direct evidence of black hole mergers.

evidence

Supermassive black holes reside at the centers of most large galaxies, including our own Milky Way.
